iPad has more than 10.000 apps in AppStore

by iPad Observer on June 13, 2010

According to a post on MacStories, there are more than 10.000 iPad specific apps in the AppStore now. Apparently, more than 75% of these apps are paid apps, which is pretty impressive. To have more than 7.500 paid apps in just a little bit over 2 months is a big thing.

AppStore continues to grow at a very high rate, just a few weeks ago they announced they hit the 3 billion downloads mark. These numbers are even more interesting when you look at all the negative PR that iPad had even before it was launched. Almost every geek pundit said something against the device, from the lack of Flash, up to the limited connectivity (no real GPS apparently) and so on.

Despite this very unusual wave of rejection – which is something uncommon for Apple, usually surrounded by floods of sympathy and fanboys – the iPad seems to have an even bigger success than the initial release of the iPhone.

In my opinion, this growth will continue, and the new iOS4 will also bring a lot of opportunities for developers. In this context, the recent riots against Apples TOS, which severely limited the use of third party apps for apps submitted to AppStore, seems of little importance. If any, at all.

Apple has set a pretty big game, and even if FTC is going after the, chances that they are going to get hit are pretty low. It’s not like Microsoft did with Internet Explorer, back when Microsoft still meant something in the computing industry. It’s more like protecting their own identity and brand value, which is something natural.
